Volkswagen check engine light
The check engine light on your car is there to signal the driver of a problem with the engine and sometimes other systems such as transmission concerns are being detected by the engine computer.
Your should have a professional determine the reason for the “check engine” to come on. Generic OBD2 scanners can give you a generic code and an idea if the vehicle is safe to keep driving. When a technician pulls the code, the proper diagnostic flow chart is followed to get to the bottom of the problem. So the check engine is the simptom, just like a toothache, and the actual problem (oxygen sensors, carbon build up, failed injectors, etc) can be the cavity that is causing the tooth to hurt. The technician will then repair the cause of the problem to clear the check engine light of the dash.
